Meet the Newts

Here are the past participants of the trip.

2001, 2002, 2004, 2005 Brian Piercy Our Fearless Leader - The guy who started this whole quest.

2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 Gene Cornelius The All Knowing man with the book - Gene had all the answers when we needed to know where we were at this time last year or what the mileage was to the next stop. He is responsible for making this one of the most well documented trips around. Between multiple video cameras and still cameras, and his trusty journal, there was not an undocumented moment of this trip (well maybe a few). He is the one responsible for the 2001 web site.

Bartholomew the 1960 double cab. The only bus that has been on every Shasta Trip.

2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 Tim Burson Hippie Tim - Tim has been into buses a long, long time. Saturday's entertainment included video footage of Tim and his family camping in a 57 double door panel 30 years ago. Talk about surrealistic.

The Mutant. A bus that is always willing to lead the pack.

2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 Aaron Boice The Fish Decapitator - This is the guy who became famous the year before for reaching into the frozen lake and pulling out a trout… and then tearing its head off with his bare hands. Hey, we are madmen you know.

2003, 2004, 2005 Emily Morrison Aaron's navigator and chef extrodinare. Em has been our lodging specialist this year and is a great bus girl.

2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 Richard Kimbrough Rustybus pilot and the guy who does this site. I've been told I'm obsessed with the Shasta Trip. I'm not, but let me tell you about this time on the Shasta Trip...

The Rustybus, a 1961 ragtop standard that looks forward to the Shasta Trip every year.

2004, 2005 Rachel Hollis Rachel says: I want to use the trip as a reason to get a long-term project driving again... after approximately 30 years. Oh yeah, six volts kick ass, ask Zeb. Bus girls rock, ask Lance and Sandy. Truck girls rock, ask Gus and Zoe.

2005 Zoe I can't wait, this is going to be so much fun.

2004 Susan Dolvan Long time bus driver Susan knows how to drive her bus, and can make the best grilled cheese around in any weather.

2004, 2005 Lance Lance and his driving partner Sandy got to added adventure in 2004 when they had to track the group of Newts through the woods to find their way to Shasta. Looking forward to them driving a bit closer to us this year./td>

2005 The Little One The youngest Newt!

2002, 2005 Tommy Tarka Known to wear a shirt as a child bearing the words "Hi, I'm Tommy Tarka" - A world traveler, Tommy spent 9 months 'down under' and his Australianisms and great cooking made him a great guy to have around.

2005 Suzanne One cool girl. Rode shotgun in the Rustybus and Ol' Blue with Tommy. Together they formed Team Porno because they spent the whole trip sucking face. Of course, who could blame them.

2002 Tetsuya Otani Gene's co-pilot and video assistant - New to buses but an asset to the trip.

2002, 2005 Britt Grannis (and daughter Katelyn) The Nicest Man Alive - Britt will give you the shirt off his back, or in this case, he gave me his bus to drive, knowing full well what was in store for it.

2002 Mike The man who could sleep through WWIII - Mike was a great guy and the one guy in the group who actually realized that sleep was an option, and was able to sleep among the melee. He was also the guy who helped Aaron avoid a collision with a tree.

2002, 2003 Jon Robere 180° Jon - This is the guy who once started, could not stop fish tailing his bus, romping it through the woods, and overall just driving it like a bus should be driven even though it was shiny and beautiful. He drove up all the way from San Diego.

Jon's Sundial isn't afraid to hit the mud, despite the shiny appearance.

2003 Jason D'Ottavio Gene's copilot/cameraman/shopping cart propellant in 2003.

2003 Eric Cook Aaron's 2003 copilot. A good video guy, that could freeze his ass off without to much complaining. Also famous for diving into some very hard snow for the video. Another cool thing about that guy is that Aaron asked him to go at about 7pm the night before the trip. That's cool.

2001 Stuart Dunn Gene's uncle and copilot in 2001.

2002 Shawn (known as Dirty Boy in the theatrical version of the trip) The Man of 1000 looks - This guy doesn't own a bus, but sure knows how to have fun with people who do. Shawn was like a chameleon, changing his style every time we turned around.

2005 Clara Williams Clara says: Hi, My name is Clara and I like old VW buses. I enjoy guerilla camping and saving old VWs. I am real excited about getting the bd baja on the road and off the road! I've thought about this trip for years... and joining the intrepid adventurers. Looking forward to seeing you all and doing the back roads trip.

2005 Greg Noble Clara's 2005 copilot. Greg and Richard once took a dirt road half way across Arizona in a 36 hp bus with bias ply tires. Greg should have shown up for this years ago.

2005 Sean Dorman Lincoln Highway Splits Prez, Stock Nazi and general smart-ass. This will be my first Snow Trip although not my first trip to the snow! I'll be driving my '65 Westy that I've owned for 12 years with my co-pilot, Augusta.

1600 SP with an all stock drive train and running gear. She also has a BN4 which we hope will help keep us warm!

2005 Type 3 Steve He's from San Jose. He loves vw's of all types and Reggae.

2005 Mike Wood Being a nature lover and a bus lover, I am always down for an opportunity to put the two together. I am the proud owner of 3 buses, but it will be the 66 Freak Westy that will be joining me on this trip.

66 Freak Westy. She came from Indiana with a bay window slider door attached. The bus is rusty but a ton of fun. I'm looking forward to taking her through the back roads of Mt Shasta.

2005 Cory Yeo This trip is one of my goals because I love the concept of a box on wheels: reliable, rugged and economic....I would love to prove to the public that the stereotype of an inefficient and unreliable car is just a myth and through this, and my other trips, I have proven the old panel is as reliable as I preach. - Cory

2005 Paul Cullen Paul is the leader of Team Ireland and pilot of Karma, a bus that was gifted by Brian, and will be resurrected by a group of Newts for the 2006 trek. Paul is one of the coolest, funniest, and most generous Newts out there. Currently keeping an eye on Britt in Ireland to make sure he doesn't take over the Island.
